Legal Basis for Health Care Delivery  --  Public Health  (PB HLTH) 225 [3 units]
Course Format: Three hours of lecture per week.
Prerequisites: Graduate standing or consent of instructor. No legal experience or training required.
Description: This is a course for nonlawyers in legal issues in the organization and delivery of health care, including regulation, fraud and abuse, physician arrangements, Medicare, managed care, privacy, malpractice, patient dumping, health care organizations, contracts, etc. Students will gain an appreciation of the interaction of law, policy, and health care delivery. Case studies, including an extended contract negotiation and medical-legal cases, will focus on the application and communication of legal principles in complex but common health care decision-making situations.
