Note: "Colonialism and Imperialism in Theory and Practice" - This seminar will address key theories, processes and events associated with the phenomena of colonialism and imperialism. It is intended to provide context fo rcurrent developments and explore issues from several disciplinary perspectives. Topics to be considered will include technology, revolutionary nationalism, economic development and the role of religion, culture and ideology; sources to be considered will include film and literature as well as scholarly work.

Note: "Food Fights: The Political Economy of Food" - Food is critical to our survival. Yet, there are people throughout the world who do not have access to sufficient and/or healthy food. A number of social movements focused on food-related issues have sprouted up in both the Global North and the Global South in recent decades. In this course, we will examine the national and international political and economic dynamics that shape production, distribution and access to healthy food, as well as a number of the social movements that have emerged, their critiques of the key actors involved in shaping food markets and the solutions they offer.
